Maritza is the principal of MAK Consultants, specializing in health care and nonprofit consulting. She is a former pediatrician and neonatologist. She is the former executive director of the Spanish Action League of Onondaga County. She has also served as a member of many philanthropic boards, including Home Aides of CNY, West Side Community School Initiative and the Near West Side Initiative.
“During my time on the board I served on the grants committee. There were so many good grants that came in, it just broke your heart not to be able to give everybody all the money that they wanted. One of the things I do remember funding was the Amaus Clinic, which is a health clinic for the uninsured and underserved. Here it is all these years later, and they’re doing fantastic work. It was wonderful being on the board. It showed me how much the giving spirit exists here in Syracuse. I wish all communities could be like this. We have such a spirit of giving in this community to help others.”
